Choosing between a waist trainer and a faja

A waist trainer works on the midsection alone. It sits between the ribs and the hips, uses boning to stop it folding when you sit, and fastens with rows of hooks so it can be taken in as your shape changes.

A Stage 2 faja covers more — torso, hips and sometimes the thighs — and is what most surgeons recommend once the first stage of recovery is over. It spreads compression across a wider area, which is why it is the one people wear for months rather than hours.

Light, medium or firm

Light smooths a line under clothing and can be worn all day without thinking about it. Medium is the everyday shaping most people mean when they say shapewear. Firm is for post-op wear and full control, and it is deliberately harder to fasten — that resistance is the compression doing its job.

Getting the size right

Shapewear is graded from the waist and hip, not from your dress size, and it does not match the sizing on our sets. Measure over bare skin, check the chart on the product page, and size up if you are between two and plan to wear it all day.
